Most Feeder associations, if not all, expect the producer to pay off the entire loan before he or she starts to receive any proceeds. Producers have told us that receiving their profits after all the cattle are sold makes the cattle feeding business difficult, because many of their expenses are billed to them monthly. At CFC we pay you proceeds as you sell, up to 80% of the profit on a per head basis. As well, we offer loans on feed purchases after the cattle have been on feed for more than 120 days. Our program allows you to focus more on market timing and target weights, and worry less about having to sell the cattle prematurely, just to satisfy a financial commitment.

Quite often we hear of cattle feeders who have put up large surpluses of feed and therefore wish to add more cattle to their inventory. However, if they have reached their limit at the feeder association (this is usually an amount less than $200,000.00), they find themselves trying to get family members or friends to sign feeder contracts, in order to access more funds. At CFC you can apply for up to $500,000.00 on the feeder programs and up to $200,000.00 on the cow programs. If you need more, a second application can be submitted. You can request the funds necessary to acquire enough cattle to utilize whatever amount of feedstock you have managed to harvest. Your deposit requirement can be 5%, 10%, 15% or 20%, depending on the weight of the cattle you buy, the cost of the cattle, the type of program the cattle are in, and the amount of dollars you are able to use.

What about building a cow herd? Many cow herds have been started by producers who used a feeder association to buy some heifers. However, after the heifers were bred, but before they started to calf, the producer had to pay out the feeder association. If the money was coming from a breeder co-op, the producer had to rebrand the cattle with the breeder co-op brand. The breeder co-op brand is put on the offspring as well of course, but if the producer wanted to get a feeder loan against the calves, the calves would need to be rebranded with the feeder association brand. The problem is that feeder clubs do not want the success of their association to be compromised by the problems in the cow/calf business. Many feeder association directors recognize the risks and/or the workload in the breeder clubs to be greater, or at the very least, more difficult to administrate, than those in the feeder clubs.

At CFC, one brand is all you need! From heifer to cow and back to the offspring, one brand works fine. If you need to use a different brand on some new purchases, CFC has six different registered brands to accommodate your operation.

As a member of a feeder association, financial losses by one of your fellow members could cost you money, and getting your deposit out can take months, even if the association is not experiencing any problems at the time of your request. At CFC customers are only responsible for their own borrowings and not the misfortunes of our other accounts. And you can receive any unused or surplus deposit a lot faster usually within 5 days of the request. If you would like your funds sent to someone else, just ask. We will require a written request, which is usually faxed from our office to you and back to us the same day. We can send the money out by courier, express post, bank bag*, direct deposit*, greyhound or regular mail. And if our auction market field rep is traveling in your area, we can deliver the cheque right to your door.
